Flower coolers

Flower walk-in coolers that keep the petals

Same panels as our restaurant and convenience store walk-ins. What changes is the refrigeration: the right temperature and the right amount of cool air, so the petals and leaves do not turn brown and the flowers stay fresh longer.

Quick answer

A flower cooler is built from the same insulated cam-lock panels as any of our walk-in coolers. The difference is the refrigeration equipment we use to cool and maintain the flowers at the right temperature with the right amount of cool air — a low velocity evaporator instead of the fast-moving air a food cooler uses.

Choose one of our many standard size walk-in coolers or have us help you design a custom one, with glass doors with LED lights and shelves so customers reach in for a finished arrangement, or view windows so they can look in and point out the flowers they want.

Three ways to run it

Glass doors, a view window, or both

Glass doors with LED lights and shelvesCustomers reach into the cooler and pull the fresh arrangement already made. The glass doors are quoted and sold with the box.
View windowsCustomers look into the flower cooler to see what is available and pick by pointing. Staff pull the flowers; the door stays shut.
Back-of-shop holdingA plain walk-in door and the same floral refrigeration — for the stock and the buckets, with the arrangements made up front.
A real one, drawn

The reference build, on paper

This is an actual approval drawing out of our drawing office — the sheet a florist signs before the panels are cut.

  • 6′ × 8′ × 7′6″ high, without floor — the panels sit on the shop floor with a vinyl screed, flush for carts and buckets.
  • Low velocity evaporator for flowers called out on the plan.
  • Three Model 401 heated glass doors, 24″ × 75″, facing the shop.
  • 34″ × 76″ right-hand hinge door for staff and stock.
  • All three sheets are in the drawings gallery.

Sizing

Size it for Valentine’s Day, not an average week

A florist needs humidity a restaurant would call a mould problem, and height a food cooler never plans for. We size for the product, not the square footage.

  • Height for long-stem buckets — plan the shelving and the bucket stacks before the footprint.
  • Peak, not average — the holiday inventory is what overflows a box.
  • Standard size or custom — any of our standard walk-in cooler footprints, or panels manufactured to your shop.
  • Floor optional — a cooler never freezes the slab, so most florists use the vinyl screed and keep the entry flush.

Flower Coolers FAQ

Why not just use a regular walk-in cooler?

The box is the same. The refrigeration is not: a food cooler moves a lot of air fast to pull temperature down quickly, and that air dries out petals and leaves and turns them brown. A flower cooler uses a low velocity evaporator and is set to maintain the flowers at the right temperature with the right amount of cool air, so they stay fresh longer.

What temperature does a flower cooler run at?

It depends on the flowers you carry, so we do not publish one number. Tell us what you sell and we will set the temperature with you when we size the refrigeration, and it goes on the approval drawing.

Glass doors or a view window?

Glass doors with LED lights and shelves let customers reach in and take a finished arrangement themselves. A view window lets them see the flowers and point out what they want while staff pull them, and the door stays shut. Many shops do both — doors for arrangements, a window on the stock.

Standard size or custom?

Either. We can make you one of our many standard size walk-in coolers, or help you design a custom flower cooler to the shape of your shop. Panels are manufactured to your dimensions.

Does it need an insulated floor?

No — a cooler never drops below freezing, so the floor is optional. The reference build above is without floor: the panels sit on the shop floor with a vinyl screed, and buckets and carts roll straight in.

What do you need from me for a quote?

The inside dimensions you have to work with, the temperature you need, and what is going in the box. That is enough for a same-day number. Before anything is manufactured you receive a dimensioned approval drawing to sign off, so the details get confirmed in writing, not guessed.
